Siderow Kennedy Adds Some 'Salsa' to Real Estate Sales

Chappaqua, NY • August 13, 2003

Carina Sierra and Sara Adelhardt, natives of Uruguay and Puerto Rico, respectively, are successful licensed realtors at Siderow Kennedy Real Estate because of their knowledge of the market and willingness to give their all for customers. But for Latin clients, the women's Spanish language skills and familiarity with Hispanic culture are just as important.

Ms. Sierra says clients are delighted when they discover Siderow Kennedy has Spanish-speaking brokers. "They feel they can relate to us better," she says. "They like to speak their language. It makes them feel more comfortable and it creates more trust."

"Our Latin background helps us understand how our clients think," Ms. Adelhardt says. "We relate to their culture."

The Hispanic real estate market is growing quickly, according to Sheila Siderow, president of Siderow Kennedy. "Political problems in parts of Latin America are encouraging upper middle-class Latinos to move to the United States, and they want to move to Westchester for the same reasons everyone else does - the schools, the communities, the family orientation, freedom, and the lovely homes."

Ms. Sierra and Ms. Adelhardt have sold residences to Latin clients in Yorktown, Ossining, Cortlandt, Peekskill, and Mahopac. They help clients contact Spanish-speaking mortgage brokers if the clients cannot find mortgages on their own.

Ms. Sierra moved to the United States when she was three years old, but she returned to Uruguay for high school. She lives in Chappaqua with her husband, who also is from Uruguay and owns the bike shop in town; their five-and-a-half-year-old twins; and their two-and-a-half-year-old (daughter/son). She joined Siderow Kennedy in 2001 after working as a corporate travel consultant.

Ms. Adelhardt, a resident of Somers, is a licensed real estate broker who joined Siderow Kennedy in early 2003. She has been in the United States for 20 years and attended the College of New Rochelle, where she earned a degree in business and marketing.
